If you want UK hosting from a company that is not owned by an American holding group, the shortlist is short and these three are on it. They are all good. They are good at different things, which is more useful than a winner.

Krystal: the safe default
If someone asks me for one recommendation with no further context, this is it. NVMe and LiteSpeed, a free CDN, daily backups you restore yourself without a ticket, staging, free migrations, and support that replies in minutes and understands WordPress. The 60-day refund window is unusually long and signals a company that does not expect people to leave.
The B Corp status and employee ownership trust are not marketing garnish either — they change the incentives. A company with no external shareholders demanding growth has no structural reason to invent an upsell.
Choose Krystal if you have one to a handful of sites, want them fast and UK-hosted, and would rather pay £6 than £2.99 to never think about it again.
20i: the agency machine
20i is what happens when the people who built Heart Internet start over with two decades of hindsight. The reseller platform is the best in the UK: white-labelled, properly API-driven, with per-client isolation and a bulk management view that makes running forty client sites tractable.
The unlimited-websites allowance on ordinary shared plans is the sleeper feature. If you have six side projects, 20i hosts all of them for the price most hosts charge for one.
The trade is the panel. My20i is powerful and entirely its own thing — there is no cPanel muscle memory to fall back on, and it is dense for a first-time user. Give it an afternoon before judging it.
Choose 20i if you host more than one site, or you host other people's sites for money.
34SP.com: the human one
Small, Manchester-based, hosting since 1998, and specialised in WordPress to the point where the support team debugs your plugin conflict rather than telling you it is out of scope. There is no 24/7 phone line and no vast product ladder — what there is, is people who know your name after the third ticket.
Pricing is flat and honest, the Manchester data centre runs on renewable power, and the company has survived nearly three decades without being sold. That last fact is rarer than it should be.
Choose 34SP if you value a relationship over a feature matrix, and your site is WordPress.
